How we select your roommate
How we select your roommate
Rest assured, you’ll have one thing in common with your roommate; They are just as nervous about sharing a room! With halls designated specifically for first-year students, you’ll meet people who are experiencing the same anxieties and concerns as you are—encouraging friendly and comfortable interaction.
We look for things in common
It all starts with the housing application. Our Community Living staff reads each and every one and matches students based on their responses. Rest assured, they aren’t just pulling names out of a hat. They’ll take into consideration habits and patterns that tend to cause conflicts in roommate situations, like room cleanliness and bed times, and try their best to pair you with someone who has similar lifestyle preferences.
Trained Resident Advisors
Every floor in each resident hall is monitored by a student Resident Advisor (RA) that is responsible for facilitating hall events and assisting with conflict resolution. Our RAs do an excellent job of facilitating events that help residents get to know one another like movie nights, game nights, and even hall dinners at Wynee’s.
Every year is different
After your first year at Florida Southern College, you’ll be able to select your own room and choose your roommate(s) via a housing selection process that occurs every spring. There is nothing wrong with just being good roommates. You will find that you will have a more positive roommate experience when they get to know other people in your hall, and there are plenty of opportunities to do so.
Friends for life
Life with roommates can provide some of the most rewarding times you’ll have at college. Many people develop lifelong relationships that begin as roommates. With a little effort, you can create a roommate experience that you will remember fondly for years to come. You will learn so much from sharing space with another person; lessons and skills that will last you a lifetime.
Can I request a roommate? Yes!
You can request a specific roommate if you’ve met or know another incoming freshman and you both request to live with one another.
Lay a Foundation
We encourage you to contact your roommate over the summer to begin the process of getting to know each other. It’s helpful to meet your roommate in person prior to moving in if at all possible. Laying a foundation can make the move-in day transition even easier.
Plan Ahead
Planning ahead with your roommate can save you time and money. When deciding what to pack, having a conversation with your prospective roommate about what you and they are willing to share is important.
