Apply Via the Portal
Students must log in to access the form.

Housing Selection

Students will be assigned a specific timeslot, during which they can log in and select available housing based on eligibility and capacity. The timeslot does not restrict the amount of time a student has to choose a residential space; it simply indicates when they can begin making their selection. Students can continue selection housing form their assigned timeslot until the conclusion of the General Housing Selection period.

Once a student is eligible to begin selection, they can login to the Portal to view available housing options. Options will be limited to spaces that meet a student’s roommate requirements and availability. Individuals who have selected a roommate will have to select spaces that match the number of the group. Individuals will be unable to select an individual space unless they release the members of their group.

** Historically, students in this week have 90+ hours earned at FSC; apartments are usually filled within the second week.

*** Based on availability, Community Living may choose to end selection and manually assign students to remaining open bed spaces to ensure everyone has a room assignment.

Assigning Housing Selection Timeslots

Those who applied before the deadline and meet eligibility criteria will be able to view their Housing Selection Timeslot on the Portal in the Community Living subsection of the Student tab on Monday, May 1.

Housing Selection Timeslots are determined by a student’s Florida Southern College earned credit hours, total credit hours (transfer, dual enrollment, etc.), level of involvement through the Passport Program, and grade point average at FSC through Fall 2024. Roommate pairings who want to select a space together must use the selection timeslot of the roommate with the earliest assigned time when selecting a room.

Honors students, Hollingsworth Scholars, and students who reached Passport Level 5 by Monday, March 31 will receive an additional priority factor, which will positively impact their Housing Selection Timeslot.

Roommate Selection

On Monday, May 1, students will be able to log into the Portal and request roommate(s) for Fall 2025. Students will have through the end of housing selection to select or adjust their roommate(s). Only one student should request all other student(s) for a housing selection group. Once a room assignment is selected on the Portal, students will not be able to change their selected roommate(s) or their housing selection. Students will have to contact Community Living if they who wish to adjust their roommate(s) or room selection must contact Community Living to request a manual change which will require adequate time. Any changes will be subject to availability which will be more limited as housing selection progresses.

Medical Accommodations Requests

Any student who is seeking medically related housing accommodation should contact the Office of Student Disability Services to begin the paperwork and evaluation process. Accommodations must be approved by the stated deadline on the Student Disability Services’ website to ensure eligibility prior to the General Housing Selection. Students who do not adhere to the stated deadlines will be assisted to the best of our ability, but we cannot guarantee accommodations for the upcoming Semester.

On Monday, April 7, Students who have met stated deadlines and have been approved by Student Disability Services for medically approved housing accommodations will be contacted separately by Community Living and provided with a Housing Preference Form. These students will have until Monday, April 21 to complete the form. Any submission following Monday, April 21 will be reviewed and assigned based on availability.

Greek Suites Requests

Panhellenic and IFC organizations living within a Greek Suite can select members of their organization to fill their allotted spaces. Organizations can refer to the Greek Village Operating Guide for more information about Housing Selection for Greek affiliated spaces. The needed forms will be sent to the Chapter President and Housing Manager for each organization to review on Monday, April 7. Forms must be completed and submitted back to Community Living by Monday, April 21. Students selected to reside in the suites will be notified of their placement on Friday, April 25. Students must accept or deny their room assignment by Monday, April 28. Open spaces left unrequested or filled by the Organization may be filled with unaffiliated students.

Housing Eligibility

All students must meet eligibility criteria to participate in Housing Selection. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure they meet eligibility criteria. If a student fails to complete the necessary steps, any delay to their timeslot or missed selection opportunities are not the responsibility of the college. Students are encouraged to review eligibility requirement deadlines carefully to avoid disruptions.

All students must be registered for 12 hours for the proceeding fall semester. Students not registered for at least 12 hours for the proceeding fall semester at least 24 business hours before the selection window will be unable to register during their assigned time. Students who register within 24 business hours of their selection window may be delayed in receiving approval. Once a student registers, they can expect to be granted authorization within 48 business hours.

Apartment Residency Criteria

Garden & Star Apartments*

Only students who have a minimum of 70 credits earned at FSC by the end of the fall semester may select Garden and Star Apartments. Students may only select one roommate for Garden and Star Apartments. Students who select more than 1 roommate will not see any availability for Garden or Star if open spaces are available. Transfer, dual enrollment, AICE, CAPE, IB, AP, and other accelerated or external credits do not count toward the 70 FSC credit hours.

All Other Apartments

All apartments may be selected based on availability, by students who earned at least 40 credits at FSC by the end of the fall semester.

*Eligibility exceptions for Garden and Star Apartments are made only in extreme circumstances at the digression of the Vice President of Student Affairs or designee. Students will be removed from their housing assignment if found to be assigned to an ineligible space.

Exceptions for other apartments may be possible for the following groups:

  • Athletes
  • Presidential Ambassadors
  • Hollingsworth Scholars & Honors Students
  • Living Community Members
  • Passport Level 5
  • Medical Accommodations

Residence Hall Restrictions

Nicholas & Wesley Hall will be reserved exclusively for incoming first-year students. Based on the college's capacity needs, all other residence halls may accommodate students in any classification.

Houses

College-owned houses not available to the public for open selection. The college administration will assign houses pursuant to college needs. Traditionally, if used, houses are offered to select student groups with an administrative representative overseeing the student residents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the significant changes to the 2025-2026 housing selection process?

  • Limiting accessibility to specific residential communities.
    • Students will need to have earned a minimum number of credits, in addition to the preexisting requirements to live in Garden, Star, Lake Morton, and College-Owned Houses.
  • Limiting the number of preferred roommates in Garden and Star apartments.
    • This will allow the greatest number of eligible students with appropriate time slots into more popular residential communities.
      • Off-campus communities such as Lake Hollingsworth, Lake Morton, Colony Arms will not have any changes to their preferred roommate layout.
    • Students will be limited to requesting one other student to live in the apartment.
      • Students who select more than one roommate will not see any availability for Garden and Star, even if open rooms exist.
      • In the case of a 4-person apartment layout, a student may request one roommate, with whom they will share a bathroom. A common living area divides the apartment. Other eligible students may request the other two rooms.
  • General Housing Selection will take place between May and June 2025.
    • This will let students register for full-time status before the spring semester ends. Students who are not at full-time status cannot select a housing assignment. Expectations are available, with approval by the Dean of Students, for students entering their last semester at FSC.

Why are available rooms showing for a peer and not for me?

Room visibility is based on the number of roommates you have in our selection group in relation to what is available. If you have more requested roommates than spaces that are available, your requested roommates will have to release you as a roommate. Students who made the request to a preferred roommate cannot release students.

I still need to apply for housing after the deadline. Can I still do so?

Yes! Please log into the Portal and complete the Housing Application. The application will remain open until the end of general housing selection, but students who apply after the April 21st deadline will receive the last housing timeslot regardless of qualifications.

Can I change my responses to the Housing Application?

Yes! You can make changes to the Housing Application, but you must do so prior to the priority due date of the application to avoid any delays or issues with your housing timeslot.

When can I submit a Room Change Request?

Students can submit a Room Change Request Form after the conclusion of General Housing Selection.

Why can’t I find a particular peer to select for a roommate?

There are a few reasons why a student is not searchable:

  • The student you are requesting may not have completed the Housing Application.
    • The student will need to complete the application.
  • The student may have selected that they wish to remain unsearchable.
    • The student will need to update their application to say they want to be searchable.
  • The student is already assigned to a room.
    • If a student is assigned to a room, that student will need to contact Community Living to remove them from their housing assignment. There is a manual process. Processing may take a minimum of 48 business hours.
  • The student already has a roommate request pending to another student.
    • Only one student should have requests out to the group.

I am having issues navigating the Portal. What can I do to resolve that?

Information Technology Services has recommended the following possible solutions:

I plan to be out of town during my selection window, or I missed my selection time. What should I do?

Your timeslot will be provided to you on May 1. Note that our times are based on Eastern Standard Time. You may select, starting at your assigned time, from any location via connection to the world-wide web. Assigned times are when selection windows open. Windows remain open throughout general housing selection.

Are residential spaces (i.e., apartments, suites, rooms) only single-gender?

Yes, all residential spaces are single-gendered. Students may contact Community Living if they have further questions.

Why did Housing Selection move to later in the summer (after exams), rather than earlier (before exams)?

Students’ and parents’ feedback indicated that students would benefit if the College were to move the housing selection window to a time that does not overlap with final exams. Separating housing selection from final exams, students said, will allow students to focus on academic preparation. Housing Selection must take place after Registration for fall classes, which happens in early April, near final exam time. Registration dates cannot be moved. So it was necessary to move Housing Selection later, after final exams.
