Florida Southern College Holds the Ribbon Cutting for the Adams Athletic Performance Center

Florida Southern College hosted the ribbon cutting ceremony for the brand-new Adams Athletic Performance Center on Sept. 18, 2024. The Adams Athletic Performance Center will open later this fall and become the 11th athletic facility on the college campus available to student-athletes. 

The Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired building is named for its donors, Trustee Robert (Bob) J. Adams and his wife, Ginny, along with Joel (‘93) and Kelly Adams. Other notable donors include Dr. Anne B. Kerr, Robert L. Fryer Jr. ’70, David F. Jenkins, John A. Mack ’61, and Peter C. Golotko ’90 ’96.

After previously using Gilbert’s Gymnasium for strength training and conditioning, athletes will now have access to a 5,000-square-foot varsity weight room, a 40-seat film review theater, and a conference room overlooking Lake Hollingsworth. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright scholar, M. Jeffery Baker, it continues to establish an architectural presence for FSC.

“My family and I have been proud to be a part of the Florida Southern College athletics community for a great many years,” said Bob Adams. “We are excited about this new facility and what it will provide to the student-athletes to help them compete at the highest level.”

Dr. Jeremy Martin, President at Florida Southern College, added, “Thanks to the generosity of many of our loyal donors including the Adams Family, Florida Southern College’s athletic program will benefit from a first-class facility aimed at providing our student-athletes with one of the best training spaces designed to help them continue to compete and excel as one of the top programs in Division II athletics.”

Over 575 student-athletes will have access to the new state-of-the-art facility. The Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Men’s and Women's Lacrosse will specifically enjoy new office suites and a new locker room for the Women’s Lacrosse team. Not only will the new athletics center benefit current athletes, but it will also help recruit and retain future athletes.

Florida Southern College is part of the Sunshine State Conference as a majority Division II institution. Division I sports include ESports, water skiing, and women’s beach volleyball. The college currently holds 30 NCAA Division II championships.

“The performance center certainly pulls our entire department forward. It allows much-needed space for our athletes to improve mentally and physically. It will be a primary focus in recruitment and retention as well,” says Drew Howard, Director of Athletics & Dean of Wellness.
