I believe that each student should be treated uniquely, based on their individual voice, personality, learning methods, cultural background, and musical aesthetics. I strive to create an environment where students feel safe to be vulnerable and experiment, and I conduct each interaction with empathy, kindness and a good sense of humor. Teaching voice from a functional standpoint allows students the opportunity to discover the possibilities of their own voice. Ideally, I become a facilitator and the student is actively engaged in their own vocal progress, able to apply functional skills to whatever genre of music they wish to perform. Hopefully my passion for the subject matter, enthusiastic personality, and persistence engages students in lessons, classroom, and rehearsal settings.

Biography

Dr. Morgan started his academic journey right here at FSC and is thrilled to return as faculty. At FSC he studied voice and piano respectively with the legendary Beverly Wolff and Robert MacDonald. After receiving his Masters degree from Georgia State University he began a career as a professional opera singer and has performed with companies around the country including Atlanta Opera, El Paso Opera, St. Petersburg Opera, Orlando Opera, Vashon Opera, Opera Delaware, Opera in the Heights, Charlottesville Opera, Asheville Lyric Opera, Capitol City Opera, Imperial Symphony Orchestra, GLOW Lyric Theater, Teatro Grattacielo, and Atlanta Lyric Theatre; roles including Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Roméo in Roméo et Juliette, Nemorino in L’Elisir D’Amore, Belmonte in Die Entführung aus Dem Serail, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Alfred and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus, Rodolfo in La Bohéme, Frederic in Pirates of Penzanze, and Nanki Poo in Mikado. Wesley has also appeared as tenor soloist with the Windsor Symphony, Helena Symphony, Savannah Philharmonic, Tacoma Symphony, Gateway Chamber Orchestra, Tulsa Symphony, Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, Baltimore Concert Opera, and Albany Symphony Orchestra in works such as Messiah, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, and Stravinsky’s La Pulcinella.
Dr. Morgan has served on the voice faculty at Georgia State University, Georgia Perimeter College, Haverford College, and Temple University where he taught a mix of classical and musical theatre performance majors. Wesley is trained in and teaches with the principles of Somatic Voicework™ the LoVetri Method, one of the world’s leading non-classical vocal methods. His students have appeared in professional regional theatre, Broadway national tours, signed with top NYC talent agencies, and have been accepted to elite conservatory graduate programs.
