Florida Southern College students have a new on-campus eatery where they can spend their dough.
Fresh Twist by Pretzel Maker is located on the east end of campus and offers freshly made pretzel products from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Fresh Twist is the eighth food-service option on campus after opening earlier in the Fall 2021 semester, joining other campus favorites like Wynee’s Bistro, Happy Place and The Buck Stop.
“The idea for pretzels came out of our food committee meetings,” Food Services Director Tim Raible said. “The challenge was to come up with something that is a little bit unique, not to do the same offerings in every single venue.”
Located in the lobby of the newly opened Weinstein Computer Science Center, Fresh Twist makes their pretzel dough daily from scratch, and spins their scrumptious delights in the open, where students can watch the action themselves. After baking, their namesake pretzels are served several ways for different tastes, from plain, with traditional salt, or with sugar and cinnamon for those craving a sweet treat. Each pretzel can be teamed with different dipping sauces to further customize the experience, including cheddar or nacho cheese, pizza sauce and honey mustard.
The venue features creative food throughout the day. Breakfast sandwiches are made to order in the mornings, with pretzel rolls stuffed with popular options, including eggs, cheese, bacon, and sausage. In the early afternoon, flatbread pizza options and pretzel dogs adorn the menu.
“The chicken pesto flatbread is nice and crispy. It’s the bomb!” noted Brianna Segerson, a senior double majoring in Sport Business Management and Business Administration.
Not to be outdone, the drink options alone are reason enough to head to the Weinstein Center. The all-natural lemonade is as Southern as it comes, made simply of lemons, sugar and water. With a perfect ratio of sweet and tart, the lemonade is a satisfying solution to a hot Florida day. Flavorful twists on the traditional beverage include strawberry or raspberry lemonade, which are equally as refreshing when sitting in class. Fresh Twist also offers smoothies, which can be made with or without dairy.
So far, Fresh Twist has been a hit with students, with lines forming quickly as classes let out. Fresh Twist is looking into potentially expanding their hours of operation, in an effort to be meet the demands of Florida Southern College students and staff.
