About the Integrative Biology Degree

Described as a science for the 21st century, Integrative Biology is an interdisciplinary major that merges principles from genetics, ecology, and evolution to understand and explore the complexity of life on Earth.

Florida Southern College's BS in Integrative Biology is a broad, highly flexible program of study that allows students to explore how the many sub-disciplines of biology are interconnected to solve today's most complex issues; from preventing infectious outbreaks to finding cures for cancer. You will become well-versed in the language of biology and well prepared to pursue graduate degrees, obtain research positions in government or private industry, and enter a wide array of biology-specific and adjacent careers.

Program Details

Dive into evolution, ecology, animal behavior, sensory biology, genomics, plant sciences, and more. Develop the quantitative skills, data analysis, biostatistics, applied calculus, and computer science—that are essential tools for careers in integrative biology fields. Conduct original research, with the opportunity to publish and present your findings at regional and national conferences.

Discover New Antibiotics in Your Own Backyard

FSC's Integrative Biology program is part of the Tiny Earth Network, a platform that teaches biology students to research and discover new antibiotic sources from soil samples collected in their own communities. Finding new and effective antibiotics is one of the most pressing global health challenges of our century, and FSC students are contributing to that search from their very first years on campus.

Outcomes and Careers in Integrative Biology

Armed with critical thinking, data analysis skills, and the ability to design and carry out experiments, FSC Integrative Biology graduates are ready for a wide array of biologically oriented careers. Within six months of graduating, 99% of FSC students are employed or in graduate school.

Graduate Study in Biology

FSC's rigorous curriculum, original research opportunities, and faculty mentorship make Integrative Biology graduates competitive candidates for graduate programs in biology, ecology, genomics, and related fields. Students arrive at graduate school already familiar with lab equipment, field techniques and computer skills that many peers encounter for the first time.
